Meet Our Coaches

Brian Levings

Brian Levings was introduced to the sport of volleyball while playing football for Chico State. “We were required to play a winter club sport and I found volleyball through one of my roommates”. For the next 20 years Brian played on various men’s club teams “as the various farming and ranching duties allowed”. When my daughters were very young I started assisting their teams in the early nineties and have continued coaching as a head coach for club volleyball teams ranging from 14’s through 18’s  from the mid-nineties to present. The club duties also included 9 years as club director for Team Spikers VBC based out of Woodland CA. Besides club ball, Brian has also been a high school coach from 1998 through to today, coaching all 3 levels of girls and boys teams throughout his tenure. This includes several undefeated seasons and a 5 year run of playoff appearances  as the Varsity Girls Head coach and 1 playoff appearance as the boys Varsity Head Coach at Woodland High School. Brian is currently the Varsity Boys Head Coach at Pioneer High School. “As much passion as I had for playing the sport of volleyball when I was younger, I’ve had to transfer that passion to teaching the game of volleyball, as I’ve gotten older. I love seeing young players improve in the sport and grow to love the game as I do”. Brian’s goal as a coach is to see every player make a marked improvement in playing volleyball while they are on his team. For the upcoming season, Brian will be coaching HS Varsity Boys Volleyball the 14-1 age division for his forth season as a Head Coach with VEX.

Coach Brian is looking for coachability and athleticism. Hitter/Blockers who have the desire to learn to hit and play above the net. Defensive Specialists who hustle and have the desire to take their defensive game to the next level. Setters that possess leadership qualities, who are willing to learn to take their abilities to a faster game.

Kassi Branaugh "Coach B"

Kassi was born and raised in Rocklin, CA. She began playing volleyball at the age of six years old through the city and fell in love with the sport. She continued to play volleyball at Spring View Middle School and Whitney High School. She played all the way around as an outside hitter, DS, and back-up setter. During High School, Kassi was an assistant coach for the Whitney High School MEL Men's Volleyball team, where she discovered her passion for coaching and making a positive difference in athlete's lives.  Kassi currently teaches English at Vacaville High School, where she is the current advisor to a successful club (The Dog Pound), and was the assistant coach for the freshman volleyball team for two years. For the 2018 club season she was the assistant coach for the VEX 15-1 volleyball team, where she was able to work with Brian Levings and absorb his vast knowledge of the sport. After the season concluded she took on a Head Coach position with VEX for the 12-2 AAU Summer League. Her volleyball coaching philosophy is a set of principles upon which day-to-day efforts are based. These are the things that will not change from year-to-year, or program-to-program. These are also principles that she believes in and will try to instill in her athletes that she is so honored to coach. Some people may call it a job, and others a profession, but Kassi believes that being a great coach is so much more than that. To her, coaches guide their athletes through the trials and tribulations of learning about the sport of volleyball along with life. Coaches are in a position to change their athletes' lives forever by making them better athletes and better people. Coaches are leaders, role models, and a person to whom their athletes entrust their physical and emotional well-being. Coaching is about connecting with players as people first, and athletes second. It is about being passionate, and loving the game of volleyball, so the players will play with that same passion and love. It is about making every player feel important, and giving him or her a role on the team. Coaching is not simply be a job; it is a calling. Kassi went into coaching because she wanted to change the lives of her athletes with a single word, a single pat on the back, and a single phrase, "I believe in you." Kassi, also known as, Coach "B", held the Head Coaching position for the WCW Frosh Volleyball team for two years, and the Head Coach position for the VEX 12-1 team for two years. This season she is excited to coach the VEX 13-1 team and take on a new role at Vaca High School as the Volleyball Program Assistant.
