Brian Levings was introduced to the sport of volleyball while playing football for Chico State. “We were required to play a winter club sport and I found volleyball through one of my roommates”. For the next 20 years Brian played on various men’s club teams “as the various farming and ranching duties allowed”. When my daughters were very young I started assisting their teams in the early nineties and have continued coaching as a head coach for club volleyball teams ranging from 14’s through 18’s from the mid-nineties to present. The club duties also included 9 years as club director for Team Spikers VBC based out of Woodland CA. Besides club ball, Brian has also been a high school coach from 1998 through to today, coaching all 3 levels of girls and boys teams throughout his tenure. This includes several undefeated seasons and a 5 year run of playoff appearances as the Varsity Girls Head coach and 1 playoff appearance as the boys Varsity Head Coach at Woodland High School. Brian is currently the Varsity Boys Head Coach at Pioneer High School. “As much passion as I had for playing the sport of volleyball when I was younger, I’ve had to transfer that passion to teaching the game of volleyball, as I’ve gotten older. I love seeing young players improve in the sport and grow to love the game as I do”. Brian’s goal as a coach is to see every player make a marked improvement in playing volleyball while they are on his team. Brian will be coaching in the 13-1s age division for his third season with VEX.
TRYOUTS: Coach Brian is looking for coachability and athleticism. Hitter/Blockers who have the desire to learn to hit and play above the net. It is about making every player feel important, and giving him or her a role on the team. Coaching is not simply be a job; it is a calling.
